The Orioles took two out of three this weekend from the Nationals and won the season series 4 games to 2. Brief notes:
- The Nationals fan base didn’t show up for this series. I expected at least 30% Nationals fans at all three games. Friday Night was less than 10%, maybe closer to 5%; Saturday and Sunday were in the 15–20% range. For a first place team with fans saying that the playoffs are inevitable, it sure seems strange that a 50 minute commute up I–95 would be doable.
- Jason Hammel was terrific on Friday Night. I wish someone would do an in depth profile piece on him regarding the changes he made. He already mentioned that he finally learned how to put things together in the bullpen last year in Colorado but some more in depth insight would be fun to read.
- Jim Johnson, even without his best stuff on Friday and Sunday, still gets the job done with relative ease.
- Even down 3–0 on Saturday, the game never felt like it was out of hand and once Jones homered to make it 3–1, that feeling only increased. It’s been there all season and is something new to fans who have followed the last 14 seasons.
