Boston Red Sox
With specific regards to Jon Lester - it would be extremely nice if you put up some kind of decent effort against the Yankees tonight. The Red Sox are more than done and the horrid smell of last September's collapse and this season's failure is thick in Boston. Around the country, fans of every other team are laughing at the mess that is the Boston Red Sox. And they are completely justified in doing so.
At the Orioles Observer, we are not fans of the Red Sox. That's an understatement. We despise your fans, both pre-2004 and bandwagon, for trying to take over 29 other MLB stadiums in recent years.
But I can guarantee some karma from the Orioles Observer should you be able to at least put up a formidable effort. We have an over stocked supply here and despite having major issues with your team and fan base, we are willing to be the bigger men.
Do you really want to lose the AL West? Two consecutive World Series chokes followed by losing the AL West in the final days of the 2012 season? We watched you blow it on Sunday to an underachieving, bloated payroll team in the Angels. Former Oriole Koji Uehara saved your ass on Sunday Night with a terrific 8th inning, yet the 9th was just as dicey. Do us a favor and either win the next two games or roll over completely for the A's. 1-1 isn't worth anything. And if you do roll over, you won't make it out of OPACY this Friday. You may remember your four game series here earlier this year and think, "This will be a breeze." It won't be. Guaran-fucking-teed.
Congratulations on clinching despite underachieving with a Yankees type payroll. Be happy you're not the Angels or Rays, both teams who are better than you. If we get you in the playoffs, you are finished.
Tampa Bay Rays
And finally, Tampa.
Alex Cobb was outstanding last night. You guys have battled as hard as us for the 2012 postseason. Unfortunately, we both play in the AL East instead of the AL Central, so one of us had to be screwed over. It sucks, but that's the reality of the current situation.
Look guys, we were in this together last year. We took two out of three from the Red Sox (6 out of the last 8 in the 2011 season against them) and you did your job by taking three against the Yankees to get into the playoffs. But that doesn't happen without us.
Help us out the next two days. It will be worth it in the long run.
Last but not least, MLB, get it together. Get the umpiring situation fixed. Angel Hernandez had no right to be calling such an important game in Tampa last night. And a one game wild card play in instead of at least 2 out of 3? Move out of 1860 and join the rest of the world in 2012.
